Sulmona day trip: celebrating my birthday in Sulmona, Italy!

Come with me on a birthday day trip!

We spent my special day in the medieval city of Sulmona, Italy.

Sulmona is an ancient town dating back to pre Roman times. It is located in a beautiful valley and surrounded by majestic mountains on either side. It is most known for its “confetti”- candied almonds that are made in the region and displayed in elaborate floral displays. Second on its list of notable traits, is that Sulmona is home to ancient Roman architecture that is in tact, including beautiful aqueducts. And lastly, it’s the home of the poet Ovid.


My birthday was magical, guys! My sweet family decorated for me in the morning and made me our traditional birthday pancakes. Then we spent the day exploring the Sulmona for the first time with our Italian Primos. We had the most incredible lunch at a killer restaurant (Cantina di Biffi) that serves traditional regional dishes (complete with decorations and gifts from our sweet friends). We witness incredible architecture, beautiful churches, and even got a traditional Abruzzese souvenir as a gift.
