India election 2024: 49 seats vote in Phase 5 of Lok Sabha polls

India’s six-week-long general election has entered its final stages.
The fifth phase of voting has been held across six states, and two federally-administered regions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ruling BJP party are seeking a third term in an election marred by hate speech and accusations that India’s constitution is under threat.
Among the regions going to the polls was Ladakh, which shares a border with China and Pakistan. It’s seen months of protests calling for statehood.
The Indian government has not granted visas to Al Jazeera’s journalists, so we are covering the election from outside the country.
