Let’s talk about something that isn’t always easy to discuss: money. I understand that conversations surrounding cost, especially in times of grief, can feel uncomfortable. But the truth is, funerals can be a significant expense, and it’s important to be transparent about that.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve received many questions about how we handle payments and what our policies are. While every funeral home operates a bit differently, I can confidently say that for most funeral home owners today, the era of informal handshake agreements has passed. Like many in our profession, we require payment in full prior to services taking place and before any merchandise, such as caskets, vaults, or urns, is ordered. This isn’t meant to be impersonal; it’s a necessity born from experience.

In my own journey over the past two years, I’ve learned some costly lessons. While we want to extend compassion, we also have to protect the sustainability of our business. Exceptions are extremely rare, and typically only made for families we know very well and have established longstanding trust with.

These policies aren’t about creating barriers… they’re about ensuring we can continue to serve families with excellence, fairness, and integrity. And we’re always happy to walk families through all of their options and help them make decisions that align with both their wishes and their budget.
