Alam Kushai | New York City | Al Khoei Center | Muharram 2024

The Shias commence the month of mourning known as Muharram by raising the standard of Hazrat Abbas(as) known as Alam e Abbas at their houses and mosques in a mourning ceremony known as Alam Kushai. Mourners of Imam Hussain(as)'s tragedy at the battle of Karbala in the year 680 A.D recite eulogies and beat their chests while raising the Alam e Abbas at their mosques and homes. The Shias of New York do the same as their brothers from around the world at New York City's largest Shia mosque, the Al Khoei Center.

The Shias of New York commenced the start of the month of Muharram by raising Hazrat Abbas' Alam on top of their largest mosque in New York City, Al Khoei Center.
