In this video I tell you pretty much everything that I have learned about the Asus ROG BIOS and how I got my i7 7700k Stable* at 5.0Ghz*
Stable* = still under testing but most likely pass all tests especially after delidding the cpu
5.0Ghz* = clock rate for non AVX instruction sets.
4.8Ghz = AVX instruction set clock rate. (this might be set to 4.9Ghz soon)

Basically it's a balancing act of supplying the cpu with just enough voltage to run at the lowest possible temperature for any given clock rate. It's a trial and error process and every cpu is different. If you win the "silicon lottery" you can overclock at low voltages. The higher the clock rate the higher the voltages and the hotter the cpu gets.

Over clocking just means allowing the cpu to run more clock cycles in a given amount of time. Usually measured in hz. 1hertz is 1 time per second. 5.0Ghz is 5 billion cycles per second! Whoo wee that's fast! You need an unlocked processor in order to do this. Any intel processor with a "k" after the numbers indicates it is unlocked. Your BIOS also needs to support this.
