Описание к видео WTEN 5pm Newscast (April 19, 2005; First 8 Minutes)

The start of "News 10 at 5" on ABC affiliate WTEN in Albany, NY. Another anniversary-themed upload, as it was 20 years ago today we lost Pope John Paul II. 17 days later, the new Pope was selected, the now-deceased Pope Benedict XVI.

Elisa Streeter and Terry McSweeney anchor the news, and reporting are Diana Muriel, John McLoughlin and Dori Marlin. Diana has the national story on the Pope. After four ballots, the papal chose 78-year-old Joseph Alois Ratzinger, who was the 265th pope elected. St. Peter's Square celebrated the election with a ringing of the bells. WTEN also took to the streets to interview local Catholics on the new Pope, including the late Bishop Howard Hubbard. As mentioned above, today marks 20 years since the death of Pope John Paul II, who would have been 105 years old if he was still alive today.

Also in the news, two fatal fires, one in Hudson and the other in New Scotland. The New Scotland fire was especially tragic, as it killed an 81-year-old woman who was confined to a wheelchair. Also, I love how WTEN used the same "Fatal Fire" graphic for both stories. Almost felt like a deja vu moment!

Dori Marlin was also a newcomer. That February, WTEN relaunched its morning newscast for sweeps, with Steve Ammerman moving from weekends and Dori Marlin arriving from Alabama. Ryan Nobles, who appears in the commercial breaks, moved to weekends, and stayed there until Anya Tucker was hired in November.

The news theme as per usual from the period is "Primetime News" by Non-Stop Music. Chris Clausen voices the news open. He was replaced a few months later by Jeff Laurence, who was also the voice of sister station WATE in Knoxville (and he also replaced Clausen at sister station WBAY a few years later).
