Back in the late 1970s, Wharfedale launched its (then) new flagship range of E-series speakers. The gaudy brushed aluminium driver trim rings and Ford Capri headrest-style 'fishnet' grilles stood out, but it was the superb efficiency that really raised the roof.

Although the E30 is one of the smaller models in the range, it still makes a mighty noise with just a couple of watts of power. Mike and David are more than a little impressed – providing you listen to the right type of music on it. Put it this way, this speaker is better suited to Boney M than it is Beethoven!

Each episode of Hi-Fi Riff features the guys' unedited, unexpurgated views about all manner of weird and wonderful hi-fi designs. Business executive Mike has a wealth of knowledge from previous hi-fi retail experience, and David has written about hi-fi for thirty years. Now Editor-in-Chief of StereoNET, he's picked up a few things along the way.
