Early Puppy Temperament Testing | Dire Wolf Project

At the Dire Wolf Project, we believe it is essential to create a standardized temperament test for each breed to test against an ideal. We further believe it is necessary to test puppies before the environment becomes a factor in determining a puppy's true genetic response to stress. Therefore, we temperament test all of our puppies at birth, at 2.5 - 3 weeks old and at 6 weeks old. Along with constant observational data on each puppy's behavior development, we identify a comprehensive individualized character wrap sheet for each puppy. We know well what their inherited temperament shows. And while predicting adult behavior is not something these tests do, we can compare puppies of the same age to one another to gather quite a lot of data to determine which puppies will have what it takes to go on to produce other calm, gentle puppies, thus over time altering the very nature of the original founding working breeds.
