China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) continued its large-scale live-fire drills, code-named “Justice Mission 2025,” around Taiwan for the second day. The exercises involved ships, aircraft, and long-range rockets, with simulated strikes, anti-submarine operations, and blockade measures conducted north of Taiwan. PLA officials said the drills aim to curb Taiwan secessionist actions and safeguard China’s sovereignty. Footage from the drills showed commanders giving orders to fire rockets and block air and maritime routes, while soldiers reported successful drone surveillance of targets. The exercises demonstrate China’s continued focus on integrated sea-air operations and its ability to coordinate large-scale military maneuvers in sensitive areas. U.S. President Donald Trump, however, downplayed concerns about the PLA exercises. Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said he has a strong relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping and has not been informed directly about the drills. He added that he has seen similar exercises before and is not worried, noting that naval and air exercises in the region have been ongoing for decades.
