Описание к видео A Day at the Detroit Zoo

What is the best $20 you can spend in Metro Detroit? A ticket to the Detroit Zoo, of course! With over 1.3 million visitors annually, the Detroit Zoo (located in Royal Oak Michigan) is the state’s largest paid family attraction and for good reason.

Ticket prices are $15 per child or senior, $19 per adult and there are available ticket upgrades for those who desire a closer encounter with specified animals. Various annual memberships are also available! For more information visit https://detroitzoo.org/visit/pricing/

Now, onto the zoo!

The Zoofari Market is located at the front of the zoo and provides many choices for souvenirs and other items. Please note that due to COVID all indoor locations throughout the zoo currently require masks to be worn by visitors.

November through December be sure to check out Wild Lights! Visit the Detroit Zoo at night to see over 5 Million LED lights illuminating buildings, trees & sculptures! Tickets are required to be purchased in advance and can be found here https://ticketstore.detroitzoo.org/wi...

A tip when visiting the zoo would be to board the Tauber Train for a fun ride to the back of the park and then to work your way forward to see the animals and exhibits. This can help avoid some of the crowds and save quite a bit of time allowing you to make the most out of your day. Tickets can also be purchased for a ride back to the front for those who wish to walk first. For only $3 per person, this is a great deal!

The best part of the Detroit Zoo of course are the over 2,000 animals, comprised of 237 unique species who call the zoo home! Some of the more popular major exhibits to visit include the Polk Penguin Conservation Center, Arctic Ring of Life, Australian Outback Adventure, African Grasslands, Great Apes of Harambee, National Amphibian Conservation Center, Holden Reptile Conservation Center and Butterfly Garden. For more info and a current list of which animals can be seen at the various habitats visit https://detroitzoo.org/animals/habitats/

One thing that makes the Detroit Zoo special is that it is a rescue zoo. The Detroit Zoological Society is often called upon to help animals who have suffered injury, or are in need of rescue from exotic pet trade, roadside zoos/circuses and private owners unable to provide proper care. These animals include bald eagles, lions, elephants, bears and more.

During a long day at the zoo, stop by newly opened Table 28 (previously the Arctic Cafe) for a bite to eat and/or a cool drink. With almost all items being locally sourced, this is a delicious way to relax for a moment and support local businesses.

Another fun attraction of the Detroit Zoo that the kids (ok, and me) are sure to love is the beautiful carousel, powered exclusively by a solar panel flower generating over 4,000 kilowatts!

Also, don't miss the Rackham fountain for a quick photo opportunity! One of the zoo’s most photographed locations and named after Horace Rackham (the first president of the Zoological Commission) the fountain was built in 1939 and includes two ten-foot tall bronze bears in a 75,000 gallon pool with life size sea lions, turtles and frogs.

If you’re craving some more great eats, Buddy’s Pizza is also located right near the Rackham Fountain! Known for putting Detroit Pizza on the map, this is the place to go for a hot slice before heading home for the day!

There is so much to this amazing place that we are lucky to have so close to home that I couldn’t possibly cover it all in one day. It certainly is a place of wonder and a great way to spend the day with family or friends.
