The D-Day Invasion was the most important battle of World War II. D-Day and Operation Overlord turned the tide of the war and led to the liberation of Europe. This story-lecture covers what it took to plan and execute D-Day while teaching an overview of the war in Europe from The North Africa Campaign and Operation Torch to the Battle of Stalingrad, the fake army across Calais as part of Operation Bodyguard, and the Battle. of the Bulge that led to the downfall of Nazi Germany.

Like all History For Humans episodes, this teaches students in a way they understand and actually learn- through story and with visual supports for diverse learners.

For teachers and homeschool parents, I have resources that go with this lesson that include interactive notesheets, a quick quiz, and an extension lesson that has students analyze a set of primary resources focused on the importance of D-Day and how Americans experienced it. They read to President Roosevelt's "D-Day Prayer," a love letter from a wife back at home hearing about the news of D-Day, a map activity, and a diagram of soldiers uniforms and equipment. Each one has unique questions to build comprehension and develop critical thinking skills. There are answer keys for everything.
