There are few main steps one must take to repent:

Believe that Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Stop the sin.
Regret deeply and truly for the sin you committed.
Return to Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He) for forgiveness.
Make a strong intention never to return to that same sin again.
Stay connected with Allah.
