Chief Olabode Thomas travelled to Oyo State to attend the Oyo Divisional Council meeting on November 22, 1953, because he was a member of the council. The reports say when Bode arrived at the meeting, all the prominent people stood up to welcome him except Oba Adeyemi II, and he furiously said to the Alaafin ''Why were you sitting when I walked in? Oba Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo II felt embarrassed and said to Chief Bode Thomas. ''Se emi longbo mo baun? (Am I the one you are barking at like that?) Bode said 'yes'. The Alaafin said to him, Lati asiko yi lo,ko ma gbo bi aja (Henceforth, keep barking)- Bode was 34 years old while the Oba Adeyemi was in his 60s when the incident happened. The Lagos State named a street after him in Surulere. He served as a Colonial transportation minister of the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria. It was reported that Bode Thomas travelled back to Lagos and started barking like a dog throughout the night till he died the following day which was on the 23rd of November, 1953. Born in October 1919 to the wealthy Yoruba Trader. He studied law in London. He became the Balogun of Oyo in 1949. Reports say that Bode Thomas was an arrogant lawyer. Today, HRH Prince Adesanu Adejare (88 years old) who is a brother to the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi disregarded the story: and claimed that the story was not true because he was at the meeting in 1953. The Alaafin did not curse Bode Thomas to bark like a dog till he died, only what he knew about Bode, he was ill and died in 1953.
