India has launched "Operation Sindhu" to evacuate its citizens, primarily students, from Iran amidst the escalating conflict with Israel. This proactive measure prioritizes the safety of Indian nationals abroad.

As a first step, the Indian Embassy facilitated the evacuation of 110 Indian students from northern Iran. These students were assisted in safely crossing into Armenia on June 17, 2025. From the Armenian capital, Yerevan, they boarded a special flight on June 18, expected to arrive in New Delhi in the early hours of June 19.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the operation and stated that the Indian Embassy in Tehran is actively assisting other Indian nationals in relocating from high-risk zones within Iran to safer areas, with further evacuations planned. India has also set up a 24x7 control room and emergency helplines for its citizens in Iran, urging them to stay in contact. The Indian government has expressed gratitude to both Iran and Armenia for their cooperation in facilitating the safe return of its nationals
