The Boston art heist, also known as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist, is one of the most well-known art thefts in history. On March 18, 1990, two men dressed as police officers convinced the guards at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston to let them in, saying they were responding to a disturbance. Once inside, the men overpowered the guards and stole 13 works of art, including paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Manet, as well as sculptures and other decorative art. The total value of the stolen artwork was estimated to be around $500 million.

Despite an extensive investigation and numerous leads, the stolen artwork has never been recovered and the perpetrators of the heist have never been identified. The case remains open, and the FBI and the museum are still offering a reward for information leading to the recovery of the stolen art. In the years since the heist, several theories have been proposed about who may have been responsible and what may have happened to the stolen art, but the case remains unsolved.
