In a few weeks we'll wrap 2016, and when it comes to picking the best new scripted series of the year, critics will be hard-pressed to agree on a top 20 or 25 bunch. There were many top-notch newbies out there, from Stranger Things and Underground, to Luke Cage, One Mississippi and The Get Down. And that's not counting miniseries or limited series like American Crime Story: The People Vs. O.J. Simpson, The Night Manager and the reboot of Roots.

However, one series came out that signified what the last 12 months of new TV storytelling was all about is Atlanta, unfolding on FX. Masterminded by and starring Donald Glover as a college dropout out trying to make a fortune in rap music, while making the ends of his daily life work out.
