The most typical posture used by tabla players is beerasana. However, any relaxed similar position is acceptable. Other body parts shouldn't jiggle when you're playing. Your back should remain straight. It's best to keep as little space as possible between you and the tabla. Additionally, there shouldn't be much space between the two tablas.

Keep in mind that your fingers and wrist should be the source of your technique. You are making your fingers and wrists work harder by refraining from "cheating" with your shoulders, elbows, and forearms. The best approach to develop your technique and achieve the best sound is through this.
It is normal and inevitable for the shoulders and elbows to shift slightly. However, the more you restrict this movement during practice, the better the better your playing will be.
