GAP WIDENS: Expansion Big 12, ACC Going BROKE Over NCAA's $2.7 Billion Settlement, SEC, Big 10 Fine

With the Power 5 conferences and the NCAA board of governors voting on Thursday to approve the settlement of three antitrust cases, the landscape of college sports is on the brink of historic transformation amidst a backdrop of uncertainty.

The settlement, exceeding $2.7 billion in back damages and introducing a new revenue-sharing model, represents a significant turning point. The cases, including House v. NCAA, signify the end of amateurism in the billion-dollar college sports industry. Historically fragmented, college sports entities united in a rare display of solidarity, with the five power conferences and the NCAA issuing a joint press release.

This week is crucial for the business of college athletics, though it is not one of celebration for its leaders. The settlement paves the way for future athletes to receive substantial compensation, with revenue sharing anticipated to exceed $20 million per school.
