SteamRanger's first Southern Encounter for 2017 was booked out and was hauled by our steam locomotive 621 "Duke of Edinburgh" after some extensive maintenance in 2016 and early 2017. Join our driver and fireman on the footplate of 621 and see how our classic steam locomotives are operated.

The SteamRanger Heritage Railway is South Australia’s only remaining broad gauge steam railway. Situated in the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula, the line runs 80km from Mt. Barker to Victor Harbour, with stations in Strathalbyn, Goolwa, Middleton and Port Elliot. Our trains run year round, with our Cockle Train service running every Wednesday and Sunday between Goolwa and Victor Harbour. Cockle Trains are usually operated by our Heritage Railcars and Diesel Locomotives; Steam Hauled Cockle Trains operate during school holidays or special weekends. The Southern Encounter which runs from Mt. Barker to Victor Harbour operates every first, third and fifth Sundays between June and November are hauled by our Heritage Steam Locomotives. We can cater for your Heritage Train travel needs with several different services operating on select dates throughout the year or you may even charter your very own carriage on any of our services or even the whole train!
