Pindus is a complex of mountains, mountain ranges, ravines and gorges. Tzoumerka is probably its most impressive mountain range. Tzoumerka or Athamanika mountains, surrounded by the rivers Arachtos, Aspropotamos (Acheloos) and their countless tributaries stand out for the wild beauty of their landscapes and the abundance of water. There, the visitor has the chance to enjoy the beauty of the nature and to get to know the locals and their traditions.

Authenticity, tradition and genuineness are the key features that the visitor of the region perceives. The traces of history at this marvelous place lead back to the mists of time, alluring the visitor to search and discover all of its aspects.

Syrrako
Syrrako was built sometime around the 15th century A.D. and preserves the traditional architecture or Epirus. Stone multi-storey houses, slate roofs, stone-paved streets, carved fountains with running water and the absence of motor vehicles, all contribute in maintaining the traditional color intact. Syrrako has a significant history and is the birthplace of many eminent personalities. One can visit the folklore museums of “K. Kristalis” and “K. Avdikos”.

Kalarrites
The village of Kalarrites is situated at an altitude of 1200 m. According to archeological findings the area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age! The settlement flourished especially in the 18th century as many of its residents maintained trading houses in major European cities. Impressive mansions of that period, made of stone like the rest of the buildings and paved streets, are still well preserved today. Once there, one can also visit the Silversmithing Museum of the village.

Kipina Monastery: The monastery that is wedged in the rock

The Monastery of Kipina, considered a construction of the 13th century, is located near a very beautiful village of Epirus, the village of Kalarrites in Tzoumerka. As soon as you get there, you’ll see the impressive thing that’s going on with its construction. This special monastery is essentially wedged in a rock, on a steep slope. Underneath flows the Kalarrytikos river making the scenery even more idyllic.

Baros Pass is an absolute must for road lovers in Greece
Baros Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.898m (6,227ft) above the sea level, located on the boundary of Epirus and Thessaly, in central Greece. It's one of the highest roads of the country.

Set high in the southern Pindus Mountains range, the road to the summit, also known as Mparos Pass, was totally paved in 2013. It’s said to be, incorrectly, the highest paved road of the country. The pass has been used for centuries as a transit corridor through the Pindos mountains. Up until 1912, the Greek-Turkish border ran right across this pass.
