Paragraph (Part I) Video notes sheet, worksheets, and quiz: http://www.englishunits.com/paragraph...

This video and worksheet explain what a paragraph is and the three main parts of a paragraph. It uses simple language and was created by a public school teacher for ESOL students studying mainstream English curriculum. Please note: I have posted a few new materials that teachers might find helpful:

--An editable version of the PowerPoint used for this video (for purchase), along with a an editable notes sheet (free):

The resource begins with the basics:
—A paragraph is a group of sentences about one idea, which we call the main idea.
—A paragraph has about five sentences.
—The first sentence of a paragraph is indented. (So about five empty spaces come before the first word in the paragraph.)

After this, in the second half of the video, each of the three main parts of a paragraph are introduced and explained:
—Topic sentence: Tells the main idea
—Detail sentences: Explain the main idea
—Conclusion sentence: Reminds us of the main idea

An example is shown throughout the video. As each part is explained, the corresponding sentences within the example are highlighted in different colors.
