Wes Studi on Will Sampson - OKPOP Life History

Wes Studi understands the importance of those who came before him. One of those was Okmulgee, Oklahoma-born actor Will Sampson. In this clip from the OKPOP archives, Studi discusses the profound effect Sampson had on filmmakers - helping them realize they could, in fact, hire actual Native Americans to play those pivotal roles. Sampson inspired a generation of actors and filmmakers with his intense portrayal of a patient at a psychiatric hospital in who famously played Chief in the 1975 film “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.
