Nephrotic syndrome in children is common and can be cured with medication. This syndrome manifests itself with inflammation in the legs, stomach, and face of the children. It is often locally known as "Oothu Kamalai" and occurs in children aged 1 to 10. Nephrotic syndrome in children is usually caused by the leakage of protein in the urine. Malfunction of the filters in the kidney nephrons cause this leakage leading to inflammation in various body parts of the child.
