This homemade three milk-soaked sponge cake is incredibly moist, fluffy, and delicious—perfect for anyone who loves baking simple yet indulgent desserts at home.

Classic Tres Leches Cake Recipe:
Serves 8-16 people
✅For the Cake Sponge
4 egg yolks
100 grams caster sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
100 grams milk, room temperature
200 grams all purpose flour or plain flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
✅For the Meringue:
4 egg whites
1/4th teaspoon salt
100 grams caster sugar
✅For the Three Milk Soak:
200 grams evaporated milk, room temperature
200 grams sweetened condensed milk, room temperature
300 grams full fat milk, room temperature
Seeds from 1/2 vanilla bean pod or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
✅To Serve:
200 grams whipping cream (at least 35% fat), chilled
Berries, as needed
✅Notes:
1. Preheat oven to 160 C / 325 F.
2. Bake the sponge in an 8" x 8" square tin (greased well and lined) at 160 C / 325 F for 23-25 minutes or until a skewer, knife or toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.
3. Let the cake sit in the tin for 15-20 minutes then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
4. The cake needs to be thoroughly cooled before you poke holes onto its surface and drench in the three milk mix.
5. When adding the milk mix, ensure you're adding the milk a little at a time, waiting for the sponge to absorb the milk mix before adding more
6. You can also reserve about 1/2 a cup or 3/4th cup of the milk mix in the refrigerator and pour a small amount in each plate before serving the cake slices.
