With the Australian Government focused on lifting economic productivity, the delivery of the $400 million Melbourne Intermodal Terminal (MIT) will significantly enhance the efficiency and cost effectiveness of freight and logistics operations and services in both the Victorian and national supply chains.
The MIT is central to a broader development in the freight and logistics sector backed by Aware Real Estate and Barings called the Melbourne Intermodal & Industrial Exchange (MIIX) – a 99-hectare industrial estate in Somerton. For the first time in Victoria, the MIT will provide precinct tenants the benefits of co-located warehousing and related logistical services which further increase productivity.
Together, the MIT and MIIX represent a $1.6 billion Australian Superannuation investment in critical infrastructure which will help boost the productivity of supply chain operations, including rail freight services to and from Australia’s largest port for containerised and general cargo – the Port of Melbourne.
