An insurance salesman is mistaken for a private detective and hired to guard the body of a wealthy eccentric. However, the body disappears, and the salesman must investigate the murder and theft before it's too late.

The film was the second comedy featuring Jack Haley to be produced by Pine-Thomas Productions, part of the studio's new direction towards comedy films. The original intention was to hire Boris Karloff for the key horror role, but in the end Bela Lugosi was hired instead.
