4 steps to becoming a Texas remote Notary:

1. Meet Texas’ requirement of holding a commission as a traditional Notary. To qualify for a traditional Notary commission, you must be at least 18 years old and a legal resident of Texas with no criminal record.
2. Choose a state-approved RON technology provider. The RON service provider must meet state requirements and come equipped with identity proofing and credential analysis. Then you’ll need to get a digital certificate, an electronic seal and an electronic journal compatible with their system.
3. Go to the Secretary of State’s website. Complete the application form, sign the Statement of Officer form using your digital certificate, and upload it with your electronic seal.
4. Pay the $50 application fee by credit card. A 2.7% convenience fee will be charged by the State.

Becoming a Texas remote Notary allows you to perform notarizations for signers who aren’t physically in front of you, so long as you are physically located within the State of Texas at the time of notarization.
