Urologists who are specialized on sexual medicine examine and assess erect penises on a daily basis. What seems to be unbelievable to the public is a job like any other. In order to assess erectile dysfunction or Peyronie's disease, injection therapie in conjunction with doppler ultrasound is used. A vasoactive substance like Alprostadil is injected into the corpora cavernosa of the penis and the in- and outflow of blood examined by doppler ultrasound while an erection is forming. Normal values for arterial inflow are at least 30 - 35 cm/s. Dr. med. Dr. phil. Stefan Buntrock, urologist from Göttingen, explains the technique involved and shows examples of normal penile hemodynamics.
