Our cardboard disposal/recycler was costing $500/week for a roll-off dumpster during our busy bottling season. Plus we have a smaller cardboard recycle dumpster expense monthly, sometimes weekly. Tina ran the numbers and she said, "go get that thing! This recycling cardboard is expensive!"
so Joe and Nate made the trip to HGR (www.hgrinc.com) to pick up a used cardboard baler for $4999.

There was a challenge hauling the machine - it was over 15 feet tall! so we had to lay it down on two pallets and slide it in our box truck. The unit was 88" wide and our box truck door track is 86" wide. luckily, we were able to shimmy it in and out. We worked it over in to place and used two forklifts to stand the unit up.

It needed some work. But of all the units at HGR, Joe liked this one the best. The control panel was damaged - Dean was able to pull all of the switch and flatten the panel door. We needed 25 gallons
of AW46 to fill the hydraulic reservoir ($250 at NAPA). Dean and Joe straightened some steel channel and ran proper electrical wire yesterday. Dave (Dad) gave us a to-do list for fuses and wire specification so we could properly wire up the 480V 3Phase power. The fuses and wire were $115. So after about $350 in material we are almost ready - just have to lag it to the floor.

It turns out we'll receive $45/ton on the cardboard recycling. The bales of cardboard are a standard 30"X60" size. the baler "twine" are supplied by the cardboard recycler. in the end, it looks like the baler will save us $5000 per year in recycle pickup.
