In May 2024, Metro Arts awarded the design and installation of this mural to Creative Girls Rock. The mural is located at the Looby Community Center and spans approximately 20 x 95 feet across the community center’s west wall. Funded through the city’s 2022 Participatory Budgeting program for Bordeaux and North Nashville, the mural celebrates the life and legacy of Z. Alexander Looby, a prominent civil rights attorney, and features portraits of Looby alongside other influential leaders, including Diane Nash, Thurgood Marshall, and James Carroll Napier. The mural amplifies North Nashville’s cultural heritage and honors their lasting impact on justice and civic leadership. It is a project of the Percent for Public Art program, and it will become part of the city’s public art collection after its dedication on July 16, 2025.
