Hi, I’m Sasha – the mama behind this channel!
In 2009 we found out our fourth bio babe would be born with Down syndrome as well as a congenital heart defect. The news was jarring and I was unsure what our future would look like, especially with the heart defect and impending open heart surgery. In January 2010 Zoey officially entered the world, our lives, and our hearts! Older siblings Annicka, Jericho, and Liam welcomed her home in March 2010 after her stay between two NICUs! Zoey showed us quickly just how “extra” awesome she is and by her first birthday I had coined a little phrase, “it’s a bella zoey” {it’s a beautiful life}, as I realized that through the trials and challenges there are also triumphs and a beauty found that I had never experienced!!

Having Zoey opened our eyes to so many things, including the fact that so many children with all sorts of “special needs” have a greater need than anything medical or therapeutic … they need a family of their own! It became a dream of mine that if we could ever adopt, we would adopt another child with Down syndrome. In October of 2017 this became a reality (it all started in 2016) as I traveled to China to adopt Ruby – and then bring her home!!!

For years I have used analogies such as: Zoey gave us a backstage pass, a VIP ticket, walked us through the back door to a world we never knew. There are many “parallel worlds” around us, but we go through life mostly unaware – maybe entering here and there, but never truly experiencing all there is. Some of these “worlds” seem scary and we don’t want to see them. Remember my catch phrase? Zoey took our hands and walked us through that scary entrance to this place where we found unmatched beauty & wonder, we believe this place is somewhere everyone should experience – I call it, The Beautiful Upside Down!!
