The Island Storm grabbed a 2-1 lead in the Atlantic Division Finals series against the Halifax Hurricanes after winning 103-96 on Thursday night at the Eastlink Centre. The first half was the Storm’s story to write as they controlled the game while Jahii Carson showed everyone the Eastlink Centre is the Storm’s house.

Carson had more points in the first quarter than any other player had in the first half. His 18 first half points were twice as much as the next closest player at the break and the Storm rode his impressive performance to a 51-41 lead to begin the second half.

The Hurricanes fought back in the third quarter, but after both teams spent the quarter going shot-for-shot the game entered the fourth quarter with the Storm still ahead by ten, 67-57.

Rashad Whack and Terry Thomas nailed clutch jump shots for the Storm to start the fourth quarter as the passion showed in Thomas’ game during a minor scuffle with the Hurricanes Antoine Mason.

For the last 30 seconds of the game the crowd could not contain their excitement with everyone standing and screaming for the Storm as the pulled ahead in the series with a 103-96 victory.

Last week, Storm player Thomas, who finished tonight with 11-points, 4-assists and 7-rebounds was announced as Canadian Player of the Year for the NBL Canada while Carson, who finished tonight with a game-high 28-points, 7-assists and 6-rebounds, picked up Newcomer of the Year honours.

The Hurricanes’ Renaldo Dixon finished tied with Carson for the game-high in points with 28.
