Описание к видео Mosaic Magazine concept and launch 1992. Nottingham, UK. Featuring Maureen Richardson.

The first edition of Mosaic Magazine, published in 1992. The film begins with an editorial meeting at a point where over a thousand submissions have been received and it is time to select which pieces will be published. We then follow the magazine through the layout and printing process to its launch at Nottingham's Angel Row Library.

Mosaic Magazine was the brainchild of community worker Maureen Richardson. She was employed by Nottinghamshire County Council from 1980 when she and her family moved there from the North East.

In her role as a community worker, she initiated numerous community creative writing projects. She was a powerhouse of energy and innovation, and people were always at the centre of her focus as she drew on the city's network of libraries to energise and inspire new writers. She also supported freelance writers by giving them work leading creative writing groups and running publishing projects. She ran a number of events at Angel Row Library and her writing groups spread right across the county of Nottinghamshire.

Maureen was made redundant in 1993 but she kept up the writing groups by holding them in her own home as well as running literary weekend courses until she stopped work in 2015. During this time she was also able to focus on some of her own writing and had many short stories and poems published.

I was one of those who benefited from her vision. I taught in her groups and, with Mosaic magazine, she not only gave many local writers a voice but also gave me a chance to edit for the first time. Also on the team was poet Kevin Fegan www.kevinfegan.co.uk, a much more experienced editor than I and an invaluable supporter of Maureen's work.

If you have any memories of Maureen or Mosaic Magazine, please add them here or contact her daughter Helen O'Connell at [email protected]

Thank you, Maureen, for all that you did for us in those years.
