Becoming a SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) registered research analyst involves a multi-step process that includes meeting educational qualifications, passing exams, and completing the registration process. Here’s a detailed guide on how to achieve this:

1. Educational Qualifications
You need to fulfill one of the following educational qualifications:
A professional qualification or post-graduate degree or post-graduate diploma in finance, accountancy, business management, commerce, economics, capital market, banking, insurance, or actuarial science.
A graduate degree in any discipline with experience of at least five years in activities related to financial products, markets, or services.

2. Certification
You must obtain a certification from the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) by passing the NISM-Series-XV: Research Analyst Certification Examination. This certification needs to be valid at the time of application.

3. Experience
If your educational qualification is not in finance or related fields, you must have relevant experience of at least five years in financial markets, financial products, or financial services.

4. Registration Process
Follow these steps to register with SEBI:

a. Create an Account on the SEBI Intermediary Portal
Go to the SEBI Intermediary Portal and create an account by providing necessary details.

b. Complete the Application Form
Log in to the SEBI Intermediary Portal and fill out the online application form. Provide all required information accurately, including personal details, educational qualifications, experience, and certification details.

c. Documents
Upload scanned copies of the necessary documents, such as educational certificates, proof of experience, NISM certification, and identity/address proofs.

d. Pay the Fee
Pay the non-refundable application fee. The fee for an individual research analyst is ₹5,000 plus applicable taxes. For a body corporate or partnership firm, the fee is ₹10,000 plus applicable taxes.

e. Submit the Application
After completing the form and uploading documents, submit the application. You will receive an acknowledgment receipt with an application reference number.

5. Verification by SEBI
SEBI will review your application and documents. If there are any discrepancies or additional information is needed, SEBI will notify you to provide the necessary clarifications or documents.

6. Grant of Registration
Upon satisfactory verification, SEBI will grant you the registration certificate, allowing you to operate as a SEBI registered research analyst.

7. Compliance Requirements
As a registered research analyst, you must comply with SEBI regulations, including maintaining records, adhering to the code of conduct, and submitting periodic reports to SEBI.
