Impressions/observations during the test drive:
The overall design of the Vios is simplistic, but still not too boring. Its interior is also nice enough and quality is good enough. The infotainment screen also has wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities, aside the usual Bluetooth audio function.
The power and torque of the car's engine is just adequate for highway driving. One needs to put more pressure on the accelerator pedal to accelerate because it has 97HP only. In quicker paced driving conditions such as highway driving and accelerations on open roads, the relative lowness of the power and torque figures is definitely more evident. This does not mean that the car is underpowered though as this is just adequate for what it is. It does require more input to overtake slow traffic though. In manual mode, the CVT of this car does a well enough job of simulating gears but conventional automatic transmissions in other cars are still subjectively preferable. However, this powertrain is quite efficient as it managed to do 15 kilometers per liter on the drive from Makati City to Zambales and around 12 on the way back (approx. 222 kilometers one way)*. Another thing to note is that the steering is light which is makes it easy to drive. Both the accelerator and brake pedals respond well enough and safely to the driver's inputs. It must be noted though, that the road imperfections are quite felt in the cabin, but not to the point where it is too uncomfortable. On smooth road surfaces, it is good though. Overall, the chassis still feels well-put together. During highway speeds, one would hear road and tire noise but not to the point that it is unbearable already. The engine is quite audible too, which sounds quite nice. Even though the car has no reverse camera, it is still easy to park because of its good visibility and light steering.
*Efficiency numbers based on manual computation of actual amount of fuel filled up after the drive as compared to the approximated distance based on Google Maps.
