Описание к видео Mastering Numbers: Tackling Early Math Gaps | Math Summit 2025 | S Chand School Education

Strong foundational numeracy is the key to long-term academic success. This session focuses on closing early learning gaps in mathematics, which remain a persistent challenge in Indian classrooms. According to the ASER 2024 report, more than half of Grade 3 students are unable to perform basic arithmetic operations—a gap that must be addressed urgently.
Aligned with the NEP 2020's Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) goals and the competency-based approach emphasized in NCF 2023, this session offers practical tools and strategies for educators to diagnose, support, and strengthen early numeracy skills among young learners.

Date: August 28, 2025
Time: 10 AM – 11 AM (IST)

About the Speaker: With nearly 20 years of teaching experience, Nadia’s passion for mathematics goes far beyond the classroom. She has authored several textbooks, with her work featured on various educational websites and in mathematical publications. For almost a decade, Nadia has supported primary and secondary schools across Australia, with a particular focus on rural and remote areas, working to enhance mathematics teaching practices and curriculum design. Her deep commitment to conceptual and contextual teaching drives her to deliver sessions that provide educators with practical, actionable strategies they can immediately apply in their classrooms.
What You’ll Learn:
In this session, we'll focus on practical, classroom-tested methods to identify and address early numeracy gaps without the need for expensive programs or specialist kits. Educators will learn how to integrate simple diagnostic questions into everyday lessons and implement low-cost, high-impact activities—such as number talks, counting collections, and open number-line games—that strengthen students' understanding of magnitude, place value, and basic facts. By the end of the session, participants will leave with adaptable strategies, free resources, and the confidence to start boosting foundational math skills in their next class.

• Identify Early Numeracy Misconceptions: Recognize common issues like miscounting, place-value reversals, and weak subitising, and understand why these misconceptions persist.
• Utilize Quick Diagnostic Prompts: Learn how to pose in-lesson diagnostic questions to gauge students’ number sense without formal testing.
• Select and Adapt Low-Cost, Activity-Based Routines: Choose from practical activities like number talks, counting collections, and open number-line games to target numeracy gaps.
• Link Routines to Core Numeracy Skills: Connect each routine to key competencies such as magnitude comparison, part-part-whole reasoning, and basic fact fluency.
• Monitor Progress: Plan simple progress checks (e.g., exit tickets, Frayer models) to track growth and adjust support where needed.

Who Should Watch:
• Primary school math educators (Grades 1–5)
• School leaders and academic coordinators
• Teachers implementing FLN and NEP 2020-aligned pedagogy
• Curriculum designers and remedial intervention specialists
