Cathy Berberian: The Mother of Experimental Voice

Cathy Berberian, best known for her piece Stripsody, was the first to develop an approach to vocal performance based on the fundamental sound making capabilities of voice. Her work inspired superstar vocalist-performers like Meredith Monk, Joan La Barbara, Kate Bush, and Laurie Anderson. She also worked some with some of the biggest names of the 20th century, like Igor Stravinsky, John Cage, and Luciano Berio.
