Slovenian Mountain Trail Solo Backpacking - Day 4 - Dom na Smrekovku to Luce

September 2022: Day four of a nine day, 135 mile hike on the Slovenian Mountain Trail (also known as the Slovenska Planinska Pot or Transversala), the first long distance hiking trail in Europe. I started in Maribor in the northeast and went through the Pohorje region, the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Julian Alps before getting to Stara Fužina, which is near Lake Bohinj. I experienced many beautiful sunrises, stayed in huts along the way and overall had pretty good weather!

The first part of the trail went through a lot of forested areas, but once I got to the Julian Alps, there were a lot of via ferratas and the climbs were pretty slow going but beautiful. I also summited the highest mountain in Slovenia, Mt. Triglav (2,863 m / 9,395 ft.), which is featured on their national flag. The one thing I did not see too many of were switchbacks; the Slovenians do not believe in them, I guess! It seemed like a lot of trails were either straight up or straight down.
