Beyond the planetary orbits lies a vast magnetic bubble known as the heliosphere, created by the Sun's magnetic field and encompassing all the planets. This celestial boundary is not static; it expands and contracts in response to the Sun's activity, which follows an approximate 11-year cycle of high and low periods. For the first time, scientists have harnessed a complete solar cycle's worth of data from NASA's IBEX spacecraft to investigate the dynamic changes occurring within the heliosphere. This extensive dataset sheds light on the ever-shifting outer heliosphere, provides insights into its debated shape, and offers clues about the enigmatic processes at play in this cosmic realm. These groundbreaking findings, coupled with refined data, are detailed in The Astrophysical Journal Supplements, published on June 10, 2020.
