Robbers Roost and Beyond, Spring Mountains, Nevada | Visit https://lasvegasareatrails.com/robber... | Robbers Roost Trail, located on Deer Creek Rd (Nevada Hwy 158) only a couple miles from the North Loop Trailhead is only about 1/4th mile in length. In the video, I mistakenly refer to the road as Lee Canyon Road. Robbers Roost is named for the 1885 era horse thieves who hid in the limestone caves in the area and robbed travelers on the nearby old Mormon Road.

Robbers Roost Trail leads to a limestone cliff formation that is a world-class rock-climbing destination. Hikers quickly become climbers as they continue up the huge crack at the end of the trail navigating boulders and fallen trees. The route looks both fascinating and challenging and does not appear to require technical climbing equipment as there are natural steps and ledges along the way. That said, it is no easy walk. The crack itself was once a limestone cave formed by ancient seas. The roof eventually collapsed leaving the huge boulders lining the floor of the crack.

On this day I departed the trail just before the rock-climbing section, taking a right and skirting the base of the cliffs. I ascended an opening about 1/2 mile from the trail, made a U-turn and continued to ascend steep avalanche slopes above the cliffs up to the 8000ft level. On a return trip I believe it might be possible to continue navigating these upper ridges all the way to the summit of Fletcher Peak. The views are incredible, the forest populated with majestic pines. Along the ridge route there appeared and disappeared faint trails marking the passage of earlier travelers.
