This year sees the 70th anniversary of ''Operation Chastise'' more popularly known today as the Dam Busters raid, which occurred on May 16th 1943 resulting in the destruction of the Ruhr Dams. The movie details the invention of the bouncing bomb by Barnes Wallis and the mission by 617 Squadron to destroy the Mohne, Eder and Sorpe Dams. This classic British war movie was directed Michael Anderson and features sterling performances from Michael Redgrave, Richard Todd and Basil Sydney. Look out for a pre Bond Robert Shaw and a young George Baker. The now famous march was composed by Eric Coates and the supplemental score was composed by Leighton Lucas incorporating Coates march. The movie is based on Paul Brickhill's book as well as Guy Gibson's account ''Enemy Coast Ahead''. I would recommend reading Charles Foster's '' Breaking The Dams'' for a more accurate account and with an emphasis on the human story behind one of the most daring raids of World War 2.
