On June 20, I found the chrysalis of the Cabbage White butterfly on our collard green plants. I cut off the leaf that it was on and glued it to the same cardboard the clouded skipper chrysalis was on. On June 22, I noticed the developing wings where just starting to become visible, with 2 very faint dots. That means a FEMALE cabbage white will hatch! (Male cabbage white butterflies have 1 spot on both forewings, females have 2). And sure enough, a female cabbage white hatched the next day! After her wings dried I released her in the backyard. She landed on the milkweed leaf. Later on, she flew away from the milkweed and over the fence. What an exciting thing, to see the emergence and release her!
