TEACH FOR AMERICA TEACHER ADVICE (& People Considering Joining)

Teach For America is a national American organization that was originally conceived as a senior thesis idea by Wendy Kopp who studied at Princeton. The organization recruits talented young college graduates to train to become public school teachers. (Meaning: We didn’t study education in undergrad.) They have branches all over the world such as Teach for All and Teach for India. They brand themselves as a leadership organization.

I was recruited in 2016 during my senior year at DePaul University and was placed in Tulsa, Oklahoma for my corps commitment. In June 2017, I moved down to Tulsa two days after my graduation ceremony to start summer training.

I completed my Teach for America commitment in May 2019 and soon after moved to Dallas, Texas to continue my teaching career. I share my inside scoop of the struggles in the first year of TFA and things to consider before joining.
