A refreshing surprise... Saifuddin Saif (1922-1993), the renowned, avant-garde modern Urdu poet also wrote Punjabi songs for the Lahore city based movie Punjabi movie industry of Pakistan (Lollywood). Here is a song which was a block buster hit: it features a rare rendition of a Punjabi song by Mehdi Hasan, a Pakistani singer famous for singing Urdu ghazals and Urdu film songs. The music for this song was by a Lahore-based music composer Akhtar Husain AkhiyaaN.

Some personal trivia ... my relation to Saifuddin Saif, the Pakistani poet ....
In 1984-85, when I was a Biology Teacher in Beacon House School, Lahore, one of my students invited me to his home in Muslim Town. Upon talking to my student's mother over tea at their home, I learned that the famous poet Saifuddin Saif (1992-1993) was renting the Annexe in their bungalow !

Many years passed away. I went abroad for my PhD, returned to Pakistan, got married and settled down. Sadly, Saifuddin Saif passed away in 1993. In 1995, my wife's younger sister got married to Saifuddin Saif's nephew and so he became related to me after his death!!

More years passed away, I emigrated to Canada and started my web site Dareechah (dedicated to Modern Urdu Poetry). I have now started uploading some choice selections of Saifuddin Saif's Urdu ghazals, on Dareechah and on my YouTube channel Goonj such as :

Mayree Daastaan e Hasrat Woh Sunaa Sunaa kay Ro-ay
On Goonj at :    • Saifuddin Saif Mayree Daastaan e Hasr...

Qaraar lootnay waalay
On Goonj at :    • Saifuddin Saif Ghazal Qaraar Lootnay ...
