The Story of Sintayehu

Описание к видео The Story of Sintayehu

Among the widespread forms of child violence and abuse, FGM prevalence is estimated at 45%, child marriage at about 21% and marriage by abduction at about 12% in Ethiopia. Plan International Ethiopia supported 34 communities to declare customary laws banning FGM and early marriage and managed to reduce the prevalence of FGM and early marriage in project communities by half in 3 years. Plan International Ethiopia prevented and saved over 1,500 girls from planned FGM and over 1,200 girls from arranged early marriage. It also supported over 5,000 adolescents to improve their livelihoods.

This short documentary film is produced to showcase Plan International Ethiopia’s work to end child marriage in Fagta-Lakoma district in collaboration with Professional Alliance for Development (PADet) under Protection of Children from Violence (focusing on Girl Child) project funded by Government of Finland – Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
