#NAVSEA held a memorial dedication and guest lecture event at headquarters April 10 to remember those who perished in the USS Thresher (SSN 593) accident 56 years ago. The April 10, 1963 Thresher sinking cost the lives of 193 sailors and civilians aboard and is the worst submarine accident in U.S. Navy history. The lessons learned from the accident investigation led to the Navy creating the #SUBSAFE Program to systematically improve the safe engineering and operation of its submarines.
