On the 53rd anniversary of Martial Law, thousands of Filipinos marched in the “Laban sa Katiwalian” (Fight Against Corruption) protests demanding accountability for alleged multi-billion peso kickbacks in flood-control projects. Demonstrations spread across Rizal Park, EDSA Shrine, and People Power Monument, where students staged walkouts and activists hurled eggs at images of Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva, both accused in the scandal. The mass action, dubbed Black Friday Protests, has become one of the largest anti-corruption movements in recent years, intensifying pressure on the Senate’s Blue Ribbon Committee and government officials to deliver justice and transparency.
