Nan'an District (南岸区) is a central district of Chongqing municipality, People's Republic of China, known for its strategic location along the southern bank of the Yangtze River. Covering an area of 262.43 km², with forests and woods spanning 44 km², it boasts a population of approximately 891,000 as of late 2017. The district is notable for the Yangtze River curving around its north and west borders for about 45 kilometers, separating it from neighboring districts such as Jiulongpo, Yuzhong, Jiangbei, and Yubei. Bridges and ferries serve as primary transportation links across the river.

Historically, Nan'an has been an integral part of Chongqing since its establishment as an administrative region in 1929, undergoing various changes in coverage and naming until receiving its current name in October 1955. It includes several subdistricts and towns, each contributing to the district's diverse community and infrastructure.

Education in Nan'an is supported by five colleges and over ten national or provincial research institutes, including Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Chongqing Technology and Business University. The district is also a hub for tourism, offering natural and historical attractions such as the scenic Nanshan (南山, Southern Mountains), Ciyun Temple (慈云寺), and the Tushan Temple (涂山寺), among others.

Transportation infrastructure is well-developed, with several bridges connecting Nan'an to other central districts of Chongqing, facilitating easy access across the Yangtze River. The district is served by multiple lines of the Chongqing Rail Transit, ensuring efficient public transportation options for residents and visitors alike.

Nan'an District stands out for its rich history, educational institutions, and natural beauty, making it a significant part of Chongqing's urban landscape.
