the reasons for making this game:
1. i think it is the better idea to make a game for the computer with rules suitable for playing on computer rather than to mimic a real life game. no gravity, scoring area is the vertical wall behind player, customizable court size, and even some perspective things are possible. maybe the managers of the commercial game producers only understand the word "tennis", not mumbo-jumbo like this?
2. controller is made from half a cheap ball point pen (a pipe with a plug), a red balloon (somehow red was detected best), and a rubber band (to attach the balloon). construction time is less than 1 minute, 10 red balloons is about 1 euro. balloons are good because they are big enough and get more evenly lit and look somewhat more saturated because they are semi-transparent.
3. the game should tempt the player to move faster with some amplitude. achieved by the speed of the ball becoming exponentially closer to a constant minimum speed which is just slow enough to make the player a bit impatient.

in case you are wondering, it is dell optiplex 320 (a very reliable computer), a cathode monitor, and a ps3eye camera.
the resulting frame rate is about 30, so a an ordinary 30 Hz webcam might be enough.
