Fussa is a weird mix between city, mini farming, and the suburbs. The area has a decent amount of stores that cater towards military members, but overall the area is not English friendly. Make sure to practice learning Japanese before you arrive, and the transition will be easier. The roads are tiny, and the cars are unique. To get into central Tokyo by train you're looking at an 80 minute travel time around $6. Japan is a strange place compared to the US. Don't be afraid to leave base and enjoy some of the mystery.
